A pure swing-wing interceptor from the late 60s. There's no need for guns when you've got six, hard-hitting, long-range, radar-guided missiles.

— In-game description

The F-111 Aardvark is a multirole combat aircraft first introduced into service in July 1967. It is equipped 6, long range, radar-guided, fire-and-forget missiles. Four missiles are mounted on the wings. Two missiles are stored internally in its weapons bay. It is a challenging plane to master. It is deadly in the hands of the most disciplined pilots.

Special Ability

The F-111 Aardvark has a special ability called Special rapid refuel crafted.png Rapid Refuel. When equipped and triggered, it will recharge afterburn fuel at a faster rate. There is a cool down period between uses.

Veteran tips

The F-111 Aardvark is limited in its battle uses. It is only quipped long range, hard hitting, and slow-to-lock missiles. It does not have a cannon. The afterburners are powerful. However, it has a slower top speed. The special swing wing design trait can be challenging to master. It is suggested to fold the wings inward to take advantage of the swing wing's low drag, accelerate with the afterburners. Pitch the aircraft upwards to its special higher cruising altitude, where its engines becomes more efficient and provide more speed with less fuel consumption. From here, level the aircraft, and extend the wings forward to slow the aircraft. Then, employ a look-down/shoot-down firing tactic. It is suggested to avoid dog fighting. With no short range weapons, slow speeds, poor maneuverability, the F-111 Aardvark becomes a large target at lower altitude. Be watchful of the airspeed. It is easy to stall the aircraft. The F-111 Aardvark can be deadly in the hands of the most disciplined pilots that utilize the aircraft in a support role. Do not apply the Finishing Guns Mod to the F-111 Aardvark. The F-111 Aardvark does not have cannon and the Mod is useless.

Trivia

In-game, the F-111 Aardvark is equipped with what appears to be 6 AIM-54 Phoenix long range, air-to-air missiles. In real life, the proposed F-111B Naval fleet air defense fighter variant was intended to carry 2 AIM-54 Phoenix in its internal weapons bay. The F-111B was canceled in 1968. Its proposed AIM-54 weapons system, working with the AWG-9 radar, migrated into a new fighter project which would later become the F-14 Tomcat. Outside of firing tests, the F-14 Tomcat would be the only service aircraft in the American arsenal to fire the AIM-54 Phoenix in anger. The F-111 Aardvark's weapons bay as provisioned to be equipped with a a removable 20 mm M61 cannon; however, it was rarely fitted on F-111 Aardvark.
