J35 Draken
A 60s era Medium Fighter with an unusual delta-wing design. It is easy-to-fly, with a good balance of weapons and agility.
— In-game description
The J35 Draken is a medium fighter from the 1960s era. It provides a modest balance of durably, speed, agility and missile damage. Slow firing internal cannons limit its capability in close in dog fighting. It is capable of higher top speeds, however its acceleration is slow. A mix of short and medium range missiles make it a formidable medium range fighter. The J35 Draken thrives in both low-altitude terrain, where its small size and surprisingly nimble delta wing handling provide a distinct advantage over its adversaries, and also at its special higher cruising altitude where its engine, becomes more efficient and provides more speed with less fuel consumption. Pilots skilled to handle the J35 Draken can exploit its mid range missiles for peek-and-poke tactics. Furthermore, with a higher cruising altitude trait, a look-down/shoot-down tactic can be advantageous.
Loadout
The J35 Draken is equipped with short range
×4 heat-seeking missile, mid-range
×2 manual missile, and a weaker, slow firing
internal precision cannon. The J35 Draken is also equipped with
×4 flares.

Special Ability
The J35 Draken has a special ability called Pair Fire. When medium range missile is fired, and Pair Fire is activated, a short range missile is fired at the same time (provided both missiles are still loaded on the hard points). Pair Fire can send two missiles to the same target at the same time. This is advantageous in that Pair Fire stretches the reach of the sequentially fired short range missile to the lock distance of the medium range missile fired before it. If used correctly this can effectively kill and opponent in one shot, or severely damage a stronger opponent. The cool down period between uses is 20 seconds.
Veteran tips
The J35 Draken has a higher top speed, however it has slow acceleration and sheds energy in maneuvers. It is best used at stand off distance engagement. Its internal cannon has a slow round velocity and is slow to fire. It becomes challenging to aim and does not produce much damage. This, coupled with gap in reticle lock distances between cannons and short range missiles, it is best to avoid dog fighting. Equipped with 6 effective missiles at a low hangar level, it is best to let the missiles do all the work. Utilizing the J35 Draken special ability Pair Fire can inflict serious damage upon an opponent. It is suggested that you use the J35 Drakens speed and agility to get into an optimal missile firing envelope, send two missiles to an opponent, then use the speed and agility to disengage the fight, and move onto another opponent.
Trivia
In real life, J35 Draken was designed as a high altitude interceptor and not as a dog fighter, it proved to have a good quick-turn capability and high speed at all altitudes, making it a very capable fighter plane. It's known for its many "firsts" within aviation. It was the first Western European-built combat aircraft with true supersonic capability to enter service and the first fully supersonic aircraft to be deployed in Western Europe. It was the combat aircraft designed with double delta wings, being drawn up by early 1950. The unconventional wing design also had the side effect of making it the first known aircraft to be capable of and perform the Cobra maneuver It was also one of the first Western-European-built aircraft to exceed Mach 2 in level flight, reaching it on 14 January 1960. In a early version of MetalStorm, J35 Draken was equipped with
internal precision cannon, short range
×2 heat-seeking missile, and 2
unguided rocket pods.
